INEC DECLARES BIODUN OYEBANJI WINNER OF EKITI GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.
Oyebanji secured re-election after polling 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, across the state’s 16 local government areas.

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the result in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC collation centre on Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti.
She stated: “I, Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is declared the winner and returned elected.”
According to INEC, the APC polled 319,224 votes, while the PDP scored 40,533 votes and the ADC 12,872 votes. A total of 384,940 voters were accredited from 988,251 registered voters, with 382,109 votes cast and 375,777 deemed valid.
The PDP candidate, who hails from Ikere-Ekiti, also lost in his local government area, where the APC secured 8,742 votes compared to the PDP’s 2,051.
Results from the 16 LGAs showed the APC leading in all areas, consolidating Oyebanji’s victory and securing him a second term in office.
