The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered approximately 3,000 voters living with disabilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the upcoming Area Council elections.

The announcement was made by Mr. Festus Aisien, Head of INEC’s ICT Department in the FCT, during a visit from the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) to the Commission’s Abuja office.

According to a statement posted on INEC’s official X account on Friday, the figure reflects the Commission’s efforts to ensure that persons with disabilities are fully included in the electoral process.

Mr. Aisien emphasized INEC’s commitment to creating an election environment where all citizens, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), can register and vote with ease.

During the visit, Mrs. Grace Jerry, CEO of the Inclusive Friends Association, commended INEC for collaborating with disability groups for over a decade to enhance electoral inclusion. She, however, urged further efforts, particularly in training election officials, security personnel, and political party agents to properly engage and assist voters with disabilities during elections.
