The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has refunded the N3.4 billion advanced by the state government for the 2026 Hajj operations, describing the repayment as a demonstration of transparency, accountability and prudent financial management.

The Director-General of the board, Ahmad Labbo, disclosed this on Thursday while formally handing over the funds to the state government in Dutse, the state capital.

The refund comes a few days after the board commenced registration of intending pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj exercise across the state.

Labbo said the board repaid the entire N3.4 billion loan without any deductions or interest following the successful conclusion of the 2026 pilgrimage and the commencement of preparations for the 2027 Hajj.

According to him, the funds were advanced by the state government to enable the board secure Hajj slots early for intending pilgrims from Jigawa in line with deadlines set by the Saudi authorities.

“The board has refunded the sum of N3.4 billion granted by the state government for the smooth conduct of the 2026 Hajj operations,” Labbo said.

He noted that the full repayment underscored the board’s commitment to accountability and prudent management of public resources.

“The exercise is a demonstration of transparency and prudent financial management in the handling of public funds,” he added.

Labbo commended Governor Umar Namadi for providing the financial support that enabled the board to complete all necessary arrangements within the stipulated timeline.

According to him, the governor’s intervention ensured that Jigawa pilgrims secured their Hajj slots and successfully participated in the 2026 pilgrimage.

He also expressed appreciation for the governor’s continued support for the board and the welfare of pilgrims in the state.

The director-general reaffirmed the board’s commitment to maintaining high standards of financial discipline, transparency and efficient service delivery.

“We will continue to improve service delivery to intending pilgrims through efficient planning, timely execution of Hajj operations and prudent use of public resources,” he said.

Labbo further noted that the Jigawa State Government has consistently provided financial and logistical support to the board, a move he said has significantly improved Hajj operations and enhanced the welfare of pilgrims from the state.
