KANO ARRESTS SUSPECTS OVER ALLEGED ILLEGAL MEDICAL OUTREACH

The Kano State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Private Health Institutions Management Agency, the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and the Kano State Police Command, has arrested several suspects allegedly conducting an illegal medical outreach in Panshekara, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The operation, authorities said, was carried out to protect residents from unlicensed medical practices and safeguard public health.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Nabilusi Abubakar, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the operation followed credible intelligence provided by members of the public about the unauthorised medical activity.
According to the statement, officials from the Ministry of Health, PHIMA and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control carried out a joint operation before handing the suspects over to the police.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf, said the suspects are currently in the custody of the Kano State Police Command at its Bompai headquarters for further investigation.
He alleged that the suspects were operating under the name Brother Paul Legacy Foundation, a purported non-governmental organisation, where they distributed registration cards and collected money from unsuspecting residents under the guise of providing medical services.
Yusuf said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were neither qualified health professionals nor holders of any recognised medical certification.
He added that the registration cards, which bore an address in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, falsely promised “free treatment” as a means of attracting members of the public.
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and seek medical care only from government-approved health facilities and licensed healthcare professionals.
He also commended the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, and officers of the command for their swift intervention, as well as members of the public whose timely report led to the operation.
Yusuf called on residents to continue reporting suspicious or illegal medical activities, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to eliminating quackery, protecting lives and ensuring healthcare services are delivered in line with professional and ethical standards.
