KWARA POLICE DISMISS FALSE BANDIT SCARE IN OKE-OYI, TO PROSECUTE THOSE BEHIND FAKE SECURITY ALERT

The Kwara State Police Command has debunked reports alleging the presence of bandits in Oke-Oyi and surrounding communities, describing the claims as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
According to the Command, at about 9:15 a.m., reports emerged of panic around Government Girls Secondary School, Oke-Oyi, following allegations that suspected bandits had invaded the area. In response, the Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Oyi Division immediately deployed personnel to the scene to verify the claims and ensure the safety of students, staff, and residents.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the panic was triggered by a woman who reportedly ran into the school premises claiming that bandits had arrived in the community. The unverified report caused fear among students and teachers, leading to a temporary disruption of academic activities.
Following a thorough assessment, the Police Command confirmed that the alarm was entirely unfounded. There was no bandit attack, no sighting of bandits, and no security breach at the school or anywhere within Oke-Oyi community or any part of Kwara State.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, strongly condemned the spread of false security information, noting that such actions create fear, undermine public confidence, and divert security resources from genuine emergencies.
The Command has commenced efforts to identify the individual responsible for the false alarm. Upon identification, the person will be invited for questioning and prosecuted in line with relevant laws governing the dissemination of false information and actions capable of causing a breach of public peace.
Residents are advised to remain calm, vigilant, and responsible in their use of information. The public is urged to verify security-related reports through official channels and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police formation.
The Kwara State Police Command reassures residents of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and emphasizes that adequate security measures remain in place across the state to ensure public safety.
