Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sworn in six new permanent secretaries, bringing the total number appointed under his administration to 135.
The newly appointed officials are Dr Olawale Adegbite, Mrs Folashade Thomas-Orogan, Mr Adebayo Haroun, Mrs Olayinka Oye-Bamgbose, Mr Olatunbuson Ogunbanwo and Mrs Toyin Adekoya.
During the ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of Lagos House, Ikeja, on Monday, the governor also inaugurated the chairmen and members of the Lagos State Audit Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission.
The Audit Service Commission is chaired by Mrs Arinola Dawodu, with Hon. Bukola Ogunnowo, Ms Omotayo Gbajabiamila-Olamona, Hon. Bowale Shosimi and Hon. Sunday Kappo as members.
The Local Government Service Commission is headed by Hon. Akeem Bamgbola, while its members are Hon. Adeyinka Durosinmi, Mr Ahmed Seriki, Mr Shamsideen Olaleye and Hon. Folashade Olabanji-Oba.
Sanwo-Olu charged the appointees to commence work immediately, emphasising the need for efficient service delivery and effective implementation of government policies and programmes.
He urged them to uphold high professional standards and ensure their respective offices and institutions contributed meaningfully to the development of Lagos State.
“These appointments recognise your experience and service, but they also place greater expectations on you. At this level of public service, the task is not simply to occupy an office or oversee an institution. It is to make that institution work effectively and ensure that its contribution to the development of Lagos State is clear and measurable,” the governor said.
He stressed that achieving his administration’s vision of a Greater Lagos required a public service capable of translating government policies into tangible results that positively affect residents.
“Our vision of a Greater Lagos requires a public service that can translate policies into results. The people of Lagos must be able to see the difference that effective governance makes in their daily lives,” he added.
The governor further urged the appointees to demonstrate integrity, fairness and accountability in carrying out their duties. He also encouraged them to remain accessible, embrace innovation, promote teamwork and resolve administrative challenges professionally.
Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, described the appointments as a significant step towards strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the state.
Agoro expressed confidence in the appointees’ ability to fulfil their responsibilities, noting their readiness to contribute to the growth of the public service and the overall development of Lagos State.
“These appointments underscore the commitment of the present administration to meritocracy, professionalism, accountability and transparency. I am confident that the wealth of knowledge and expertise you will bring on board will continue to strengthen our institutional capacity,” he said.
In their remarks, the appointees expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to perform their duties diligently in support of the state’s development objectives.
