A Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting at Igbosere on Monday ordered the playback of audio recordings tendered as evidence in the trial of TikToker Yusuf Olamilekan, who is accused of posting the nude photographs of one Fatai Idowu Adebanwo on social media and threatening his life.
Magistrate Kemi Awoyinka directed that the audio recordings contained in two flash drives be played in open court, urging both parties to pay close attention to the recordings to enable them to identify the portions they intend to rely on during the proceedings.
The court subsequently adjourned the case until November 23, 2026, for continuation of trial after the prosecution sought an adjournment to enable it to arrange for an official interpreter to translate the Yoruba portions of the recordings into English.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, October 19, 2026, prosecuting counsel, Adewale Sodiq, informed the court that the defence had confirmed receipt of a flash drive containing evidence at the last adjourned date.
When the court asked whether the material received by the defence was the same as the one played during the previous hearing, the prosecution confirmed that it was.
The nominal complainant, Adebanwo, testified virtually, while two witnesses were present in court.
During the proceedings, the witness was reminded of his earlier oath before the prosecution continued his examination.
Sodiq asked the witness to confirm that he had previously informed the court that he handed over an audio recording of the defendant’s social media broadcast to the police.
The witness answered in the affirmative.
Following the court’s order, the recording was played. However, when the Yoruba portions were encountered, Magistrate Awoyinka directed that they be transcribed into English, the language of the court.
In view of the development, the prosecutor sought permission to arrange for an official interpreter and requested an adjournment.
Before adjourning the matter, the magistrate suggested that the recordings be replayed in full to enable the defendant to identify the portions he intends to rely on.
The witness had earlier told the court that he reported the alleged conduct to the police at Alagbon and Zone 2, where he submitted a petition and presented evidence stored on his phone.
He also testified that the police asked him to transfer the screen recordings to a flash drive and print out photographs allegedly displayed during the defendant’s social media broadcast.
According to him, he transferred the materials to a Microsoft Surface laptop before printing the photographs with a Canon printer.
The witness further confirmed that his iPhone 14 Pro Max, laptop and printer were in good working condition when he used them to record, transfer and print the materials.
During the proceedings, the prosecution also sought to establish the witness’s identification of his statement and petition to the police, as well as the electronic materials he said he had submitted.
The case arose from allegations that Olamilekan, 32, popularly known on TikTok as “BINTINLAYEAZEEZ 1991”, posted Adebanwo’s nude photographs on social media and threatened to kill him.
The defendant was arraigned on June 1, 2026, on a two-count charge bordering on unlawful display of nude photographs and threat to life. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution alleged that the offences were committed in July 2025 in Isolo, Lagos, contrary to Sections 168(1)(d) and 56(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Following his arraignment, Magistrate Awoyinka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
At an earlier hearing, the court had adjourned the matter to allow the parties to explore an out-of-court settlement. However, the prosecution subsequently informed the court that the complainant alleged that the defendant continued to cyberbully him on social media after being granted bail.
The defendant has denied the charges by pleading not guilty. The trial continues on November 23, 2026.
