MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE, SEXUAL ASSAULT WHILE ON BAIL

A 30-year-old man, Olukanyinsola Odebode, has been sentenced to a 12-year extended prison term for raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while on bail.
Odebode was described by the court as “very predatory” and accused of humiliating and degrading his victims before denying the offences and forcing them to testify during his trial.
According to Wales Online, the offences occurred between June 2024 and September 2025.
Odebode raped and sexually assaulted one woman in the Gwent Police area before his arrest and subsequent release on bail. He later sexually assaulted another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.
He was convicted after trial on one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration before appearing at Swansea Crown Court for sentencing.
Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode posed a significant danger to women and that his actions had resulted in “life-altering consequences” for his victims.
The court heard from a Probation Service report that Odebode showed little insight into his actions and had completely rejected the jury’s findings.
The report concluded that he posed a high risk of causing serious harm, linked to what it described as attitudes of entitlement.
Victim impact statements also detailed the psychological and emotional effects of the offences on the two women, with one victim describing Odebode as “very predatory.”
The court further heard that seven other women had reported concerns about Odebode’s sexual behaviour to police since 2019, although those cases did not result in convictions. The allegations included rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking.
Odebode, who had no previous convictions, is from Gainsborough Road, Cefn Golau, Tredegar.
His lawyer, Matt Murphy, told the court that his client could develop greater insight into his behaviour while serving his sentence.
However, Judge Huw Rees said evidence presented during the trial and reports before the court led him to conclude that Odebode was a “sexually precocious person.”
The judge said Odebode’s conduct had a profound impact on his victims and noted concerns from a probation officer about his lack of insight into his offending.
Judge Rees imposed a 12-year extended sentence, consisting of nine years in custody followed by three years on licence, citing the risk he posed to the public.
Odebode must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before becoming eligible to apply for release, with the Parole Board to determine whether he is safe to return to the community.
He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
