Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed that he has been diagnosed with “brief, temporary but treatable absence seizures” following two on-pitch collapses within four days.
The 23-year-old suffered his first episode during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday before experiencing another incident during Tuesday’s 4-2 pre-season win over Heidenheim.
Musiala said the episodes are linked to a neurological dysfunction but assured fans that he is doing well and that there is no further long-term health risk.
He explained that he is receiving medical care and remains optimistic about his recovery, adding that Bayern Munich and his personal support network have been providing him with full assistance.
Following consultation with neurologists and receiving medical clearance, Musiala said he intends to continue playing football while managing the condition.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl also confirmed that the club was aware of Musiala’s condition and is closely supporting him.
The midfielder thanked fans for their concern and support while asking for privacy as he continues to manage his health with the assistance of medical specialists.
