N39BN COCAINE SEIZURE: COURT DIRECTS NDLEA TO BRING KC LUXURY TO COURT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been ordered by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to produce Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KC Luxury, in court.
The order was made on Thursday following the agency’s failure to formally charge and arraign the socialite after keeping him in custody for 14 days.
KC Luxury was arrested by NDLEA operatives in connection with a 184.5-kilogramme consignment of cocaine, which the agency valued at approximately N39 billion.
The anti-narcotics agency had announced his arrest on August 18, 2026, stating that the Lagos-based socialite was apprehended at the airport while allegedly attempting to leave Nigeria for Paris, France.
The arrest reportedly followed the interception of the large cocaine shipment, with NDLEA investigators subsequently linking KC Luxury to the consignment.
Following his continued detention without a formal charge, KC Luxury approached the Federal High Court through his lawyer, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights.
His legal team filed an ex parte application under the Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure Rules, 2009, challenging his continued detention by the NDLEA.
The application urged the court to intervene and compel the anti-drug agency to either charge him before a competent court or release him from custody.
After hearing the application on Thursday, the court directed the NDLEA to produce KC Luxury before it.
The development comes amid growing legal scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention, particularly the failure of the agency to formally arraign him within the 14-day period.
The NDLEA had earlier disclosed that the cocaine consignment involved in the case was one of the largest seizures recorded in recent times and placed its estimated street value at about N39 billion.
The agency is expected to present KC Luxury before the court as proceedings continue over the allegations against him.
Until he is formally charged and tried, KC Luxury remains presumed innocent of the allegations against him.
