Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The lawmaker representing Egor Constituency was announced in the new position during plenary on Monday, August 17, 2026, following a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal officers.

Osawaru’s emergence followed political realignments in the Assembly after she and other lawmakers moved from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026. The NDC subsequently nominated her to lead its minority bloc in the 24-member legislature.

The development also came amid a broader leadership shake-up in the Assembly, which saw Blessing Agbebaku resign as Speaker. Yekini Idiaye was subsequently elected as the new Speaker.

Before becoming Minority Leader, Osawaru had served as Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly. Her new role places her at the head of the opposition bloc and gives her a prominent position in legislative debates and oversight of the state government.

Reacting to her emergence, Osawaru described the position as a responsibility rather than a personal achievement.

“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise,” she said in a statement shared on Facebook.

She also reaffirmed her commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of the NDC and the interests of residents of Egor Constituency.

Her appointment comes against the backdrop of her high public profile following her marriage to 2Baba, with their relationship having attracted considerable media attention. Recent reports have also focused on alleged difficulties in their marriage, although such reports should be treated cautiously where claims have not been independently confirmed.

Politically, Osawaru has also secured the NDC ticket to seek another term representing Egor Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections.
