NIGERIA POLICE RESCUE TWO COLOMBIAN WOMEN FROM TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE IN LAGOS

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the National Central Bureau of INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, have rescued two Colombian women allegedly trafficked to Nigeria and held captive by a human trafficking syndicate.
The operation followed actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB, Bogotá, on August 26, 2026, concerning two female Colombian nationals identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa.
According to the police, the women were allegedly deceived into travelling to Nigeria, where they were held against their will and had their travel documents confiscated by some Chinese nationals who are currently at large.
Acting on the intelligence, police operatives launched a covert tracking operation that led them to the syndicate’s hideout in Lagos, where the victims were rescued on the same day.
The suspects reportedly fled the location after sighting the approaching police team, prompting intensified efforts to identify, locate and arrest all members of the trafficking syndicate.
The rescued women are currently in police custody and receiving the necessary support. The Colombian Embassy in Accra is also collaborating with the INTERPOL bureau to provide hotel accommodation and secure emergency travel documents for the victims ahead of their return to Bogotá.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property while strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement agencies to tackle transnational crimes.
