NIGERIAN NAVY RENOVATES BAYELSA PRIMARY SCHOOL, PROVIDES SOLAR BOREHOLE

The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a renovated primary school in Okpoma, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, as part of efforts to deepen civil-military relations and promote community development.
The project was carried out under the Chief of Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects Scheme by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dipele, an indigene of the community.
The intervention included the renovation of three blocks comprising eight classrooms, staff and administrative offices, toilet facilities and other school structures. It also featured the construction of a drainage system and installation of a solar-powered borehole to provide potable water.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral S.D. Ibrahim, who represented the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibe Abbas, said the Navy recognised the importance of empowering communities in promoting national security and development.

Ibrahim said the project was aimed at addressing key needs in the community while fostering stronger ties between the military and residents.
He noted that improving public primary education was crucial to socio-economic development, adding that the renovated facilities would provide pupils with a better environment for learning.
According to him, the solar-powered borehole would supply water to pupils, teachers and nearby residents, while the drainage system would help tackle recurring flooding within the school premises.
He urged the community to maintain the facilities and ensure they remained useful to future generations.
The naval officer commended Rear Admiral Dipele for identifying the educational needs of his community and utilising the intervention scheme to address them.
He described the project as part of a quick intervention initiative introduced in 2024 to strengthen the Navy’s civil-military cooperation and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Navy said the initiative reflected its broader responsibility to not only protect lives and property but also support projects that improve the welfare of Nigerians.
The project is expected to provide a more conducive learning environment, improve access to clean water and reduce flooding around the school.
The Navy also urged residents of Bayelsa State to continue supporting and cooperating with the military and other security agencies to promote peace and security.
The commissioning was attended by senior naval officers, the Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral O.B.F. Oladipo, traditional rulers, community leaders and other dignitaries.
