Uchechi Okwu-Kanu has denied reports claiming she filed for divorce from her husband, describing the allegations as false and misleading.
In a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, Okwu-Kanu said she became aware of online reports alleging that she had initiated divorce proceedings against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
She categorically rejected the claims, stating that she had not filed for divorce and urged the public to disregard the reports.
According to her, the publication was entirely false and should be treated as misinformation.
Okwu-Kanu also expressed concern over the circulation of unverified stories about her family, arguing that the spread of false information undermines responsible journalism and public trust.
She urged members of the public to rely only on information released directly by her or through her authorised representatives.
The IPOB leader’s wife further thanked individuals who contacted her to verify the report before sharing it.
Kanu and Okwu-Kanu were married in 2009.
Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre following his conviction on terrorism-related charges by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in November 2025.
The court found him guilty on seven counts and imposed life imprisonment on five of the charges, alongside additional prison terms on the remaining counts, with all sentences ordered to run concurrently.
The IPOB leader has since challenged the judgment and filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn his conviction.
