The Edo State Police Command has announced restrictions on movement across Edo State ahead of Saturday’s local government election.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, the command said the restriction will take effect from 12 midnight on Friday and remain in force until 3 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the police, the measure forms part of broader security arrangements designed to ensure a peaceful, orderly and secure electoral process.

The command stated that the restriction is intended to protect voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials, while also preventing any breakdown of law and order during the polls.

Under the directive, all vehicular and human movement within the state will be prohibited during the specified period.

However, exemptions have been granted to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, accredited election observers, duly accredited media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders and other essential service providers involved in election duties.

The police urged residents to comply fully with the restriction, noting that security personnel have been strategically deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas to enforce the directive and maintain public order.

The command warned that anyone found violating the movement restriction or engaging in activities capable of disrupting the election would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard the election.

He encouraged eligible voters to conduct themselves peacefully and exercise their civic rights in line with guidelines issued by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission.

Agbonika reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, peaceful and credible local government election across the state.
