NSCDC SANCTIONS 79 PERSONNEL, ARRESTS 12 OVER PIPELINE VANDALISM AND ILLEGAL ARMS DEALING

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 79 personnel for various acts of misconduct and announced the arrest of 12 suspects linked to pipeline vandalism and illegal firearms trafficking.
The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja. He was represented by the NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi.
According to Audi, disciplinary proceedings involving 75 personnel have been concluded, while four others are currently undergoing administrative processes over separate allegations.
The sanctioned officers include one Assistant Commandant-General, two Deputy Commandants, 35 senior officers and 37 junior officers.
He said the offences ranged from job racketeering, illegal recruitment, financial misconduct, sabotage and theft to negligence, dishonesty, absenteeism and other violations of the Corps’ regulations.
The Commandant-General explained that the penalties imposed include dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution where evidence of criminal liability was established.
Audi disclosed that 37 personnel were dismissed after disciplinary proceedings, including two operatives of the Mining Marshals who were recommended for prosecution over a February operation in Nasarawa State that resulted in the death of their commander.
He said investigations found no evidence that the operatives deliberately caused the incident but concluded that they violated operational procedures by engaging illegal miners with firearms without authorisation, amounting to gross misconduct, negligence and indiscipline.
The NSCDC boss also stated that investigations cleared the Mining Marshals Commander, John Onoja, the lead prosecutor and other members of the management team of allegations of complicity, describing the claims against them as unfounded.
Audi further revealed that three personnel currently facing disciplinary action were transferred from the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police over allegations involving illegal arms and ammunition dealings, while another officer is being investigated over alleged negligence and misconduct relating to the treatment of a teenage domestic worker.
In addition, the Corps announced the arrest of six suspected pipeline vandals and six other suspects linked to alleged illegal firearms transactions.
The Commandant-General directed that all outstanding disciplinary cases be concluded without delay and ordered that criminal matters be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
