The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nigerian actor, Olu Jacobs, describing him as a symbol of the excellence of the Nigerian spirit.
Obi made the remarks in a tribute posted on his X handle on Thursday, following the announcement of the actor’s death by his family on Wednesday.
He praised Jacobs for his significant contributions to Nigeria’s film and creative industry, noting that the veteran actor enjoyed a career spanning several decades in both Britain and Nigeria.
According to Obi, Jacobs’ life and career demonstrated the value of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.
He said the actor’s death served as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the need for individuals to make meaningful contributions to society through their talents and responsibilities.
“Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor extended his condolences to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian creative community.
He also urged people to ensure that their talents and abilities are used to benefit society.
“As we remember his life, times and passion, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Nigerian creative community,” he added.
Obi prayed for eternal rest for the late actor and strength for his loved ones and all those mourning his death.
