ODODO INAUGURATES APC PEACE, CONFLICT RESOLUTION COMMITTEE

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated a 17-member All Progressives Congress Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, tasking its members with reconciling aggrieved party members and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ododo gave the charge on Wednesday while inaugurating the committee at the Lugard House, the seat of the Kogi State Government. The committee is chaired by a former governor of the state, Captain Idris Ichala Wada.
The governor described the assignment as historic, noting that the strength of the APC in Kogi State would largely depend on its ability to maintain unity and accommodate members with diverse interests and perspectives.
Ododo said he had always advocated dialogue and consultation as means of resolving political disagreements, stressing that violence should not be used to settle differences.
He recalled that after emerging as the APC candidate for the 2023 governorship election, he reached out to political leaders across the state regardless of their political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds or religious beliefs.
According to him, the same spirit of consultation and inclusiveness informed the establishment of the committee.
He urged members to engage aggrieved leaders and party members, listen to their concerns and encourage reconciliation in the interest of the party and the state.
The governor said the committee’s assignment was particularly important as the APC prepares for the 2027 elections, stressing that members of the party should put past differences aside and work together.
Ododo also expressed confidence that the APC could consolidate its dominance in Kogi State, having controlled the state’s political landscape since 2015, if members remained united.
He highlighted the support Kogi had received from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, citing projects such as the Kogi International Airport and the Ajaokuta Economic City.
The governor urged party members to continue supporting the Tinubu administration and its Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the President as capable of moving Nigeria forward.
Ododo mandated the committee to identify the underlying causes of disputes within the party, engage aggrieved members and develop lasting solutions to internal conflicts.
He also tasked the committee with identifying inactive founding members of the APC and working towards their reintegration into the party.
The committee, which has three weeks to complete its assignment, is expected to produce a Statewide Grievance and Stakeholder Mapping Report, an APC Continuous Reconciliation Action Plan, a register of unresolved internal disputes and proposed solutions, as well as a framework for reintegrating returning members and accommodating new entrants.
It is also expected to submit a Final Reconciliation and Political Harmonisation Report containing recommendations for sustaining unity, expanding the party’s support base and strengthening its grassroots structure.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Captain Idris Wada, thanked Governor Ododo for the confidence reposed in the members.
Wada assured the governor that the committee would commence work immediately and make concerted efforts to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also commended Ododo for his commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution of political differences, saying his leadership approach had contributed to maintaining peace in the state.
