Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected “one-chance” operators, Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, in the Obantoko area of the state over alleged armed robbery involving commuters.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, noting that the operation followed a distress call reporting a robbery incident involving a female victim and her two sisters.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m. when the victims boarded a Nissan Micra taxi painted in Ogun State colours from the Somorin area en route to NNPC Kuto.

The victims were said to be heading to Lagos after attending a wedding anniversary when the vehicle allegedly diverted from its intended route at the OLG Somorin axis.

“The occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed destination, became unruly, and forcefully ejected the passengers,” Oluseyi stated.

He added that shortly after the victims alighted from the vehicle, the complainant discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen.

Police operatives from the Obantoko Division, working alongside members of the public, were swiftly mobilised to the scene and arrested the suspects, while also recovering the stolen phone.

“The timely intervention of the police prevented possible mob action by agitated members of the public,” the spokesperson said.

Oluseyi further disclosed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation, while the alleged operational vehicle reportedly fled the scene.

He added that photographs of the suspects were taken for record purposes and the recovered phone was released to its owner on bond.

The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of commuters across Ogun State.
