OLUREMI TINUBU LAUNCHES NATIONAL COMMUNITY FOOD BANK PROGRAMME IN ANAMBRA

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone in Anambra State.
Tinubu performed the ceremony at the old Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia on Thursday as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen food security and social welfare across the country.
The South-East zonal food bank is designed to support vulnerable groups affected by economic hardship, including widows, elderly persons, people living with disabilities, nursing mothers and young children.
The initiative will provide essential food assistance and nutrition education to beneficiaries as part of efforts to address hunger and improve community wellbeing.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady said the programme was a key component of the Renewed Hope Initiative, which focuses on grassroots development, reducing hunger and improving human capital across Nigerian communities.
She said the initiative also reinforced the Federal Government’s policies on poverty reduction, sustainable agriculture and the strengthening of social safety nets in Anambra State and the wider South-East.
According to her, the programme reflects stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments in the region towards promoting inclusive economic growth and improving social welfare.
The event was attended by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, and other government officials and stakeholders.
As part of her visit to the state, Tinubu also commissioned a state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The centre is expected to equip young people with skills in software development, data analysis and remote work.
The First Lady also said the initiative would complement the Anambra State Government’s humanitarian efforts through empowerment grants, vocational tools and agricultural inputs for beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.
