ONDO AMOTEKUN RESCUES TWO ABDUCTED FULANI HERDERS

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, says it has rescued two abducted Fulani herders who were kidnapped by suspected gunmen in a forest along the Ondo-Edo border.
The victims, identified as Abubakar Umaru and Abdullahi Umaru, were reportedly herding cattle in Owo Local Government Area when they were abducted and taken into the forest.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said operatives launched a search after the boys’ parents reported that they had not returned home with their cattle.
According to Adeleye, the security team first recovered the cattle before intensifying efforts to locate the missing herders.
He explained that when it became clear the boys had been kidnapped, operatives tracked the suspects deep into the forest stretching between Ondo and Edo states, particularly around the Abuja Forest area.
Adeleye said the operatives eventually located the kidnappers’ hideout and rescued the victims, while the abductors fled after realising they had been surrounded by security personnel.
He commended residents for providing timely intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation and reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting every resident irrespective of ethnic background.
“The Ondo State Security Network Agency does not discriminate. Whether a criminal is Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or Fulani, a criminal remains a criminal, and we will treat them as such,” he said.
The Amotekun commander also reiterated the agency’s resolve to sustain efforts aimed at tackling kidnapping and other forms of criminality across the state.
The development comes weeks after the corps arrested a 56-year-old suspect, Iliasu, along with his three sons—Usman, Wahab and Yakubu—over the alleged kidnapping of a man in Oba Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
