The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has died.
A palace source confirmed the monarch’s passing during a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Friday.
The source, who requested anonymity, disclosed that Oba Isioye-Dada died at his residence in Ibadan after a brief illness.
According to the source, members of the Omo Oye had already begun visiting the late chief’s home following news of his death.
Until his demise, Oba Isioye-Dada held the revered title of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, a prominent position within the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy of the ancient city.
His death is expected to set in motion a chain of promotions within the Balogun line of the Ibadan chieftaincy system, with several chiefs and high chiefs likely to advance in rank.
Among those expected to be affected is All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Senator Sharafadeen Ali.
In accordance with the traditional succession arrangement and subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, Senator Ali is expected to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.
Likewise, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin is expected to be elevated from Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland as the succession process progresses.
