The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcibly take control of Local Government Areas or their facilities, stressing that such actions could undermine the peace in the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo Erale, had received reports of plans by some individuals and groups to take over the administration of some Local Government Areas despite the matter being before the court.

The police stressed that no individual, political party or association had the authority to resort to self-help or use force to assume control of any Local Government Area or public institution while legal proceedings were ongoing.

The command urged all parties involved to remain calm and allow the judiciary to resolve the matter in accordance with the law.

It warned that anyone who attempts to forcibly occupy or disrupt Local Government facilities would face arrest and prosecution, describing such actions as a serious threat to public peace.

The police also appealed to parents, community and traditional leaders, political actors, youth leaders and other stakeholders to caution their supporters against actions capable of disrupting peace and security across the state.
