The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set the party’s National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026, in Abuja.
The decision was taken on Monday during the PDP’s 105th NEC meeting held in the federal capital.
In a statement jointly signed by Abdulrahman Mohammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, the NEC said the resolution followed extensive discussions on the party’s current state, the political climate, recent judicial developments, and preparations for upcoming internal processes.
The statement noted that the NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified, and reaffirmed all resolutions adopted at the Emergency 104th NEC meeting on December 7, 2025, stressing that all actions taken under those resolutions remain valid, lawful, and fully binding.
The NEC also reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence, describing them as essential to democratic and constitutional governance.

It further welcomed the Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative structures, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the PDP.
The committee also confirmed March 28 and 29, 2026, as the dates for the PDP National Convention, during which members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party will be elected.
Additionally, the NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, along with affected state and zonal caretaker committees, until the National Convention and subsequent state and zonal congresses are conducted.
The NEC directed the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and begin full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention.
Emphasizing unity, discipline, and loyalty, the NEC urged party members at all levels to refrain from actions that could undermine party cohesion and to prioritize the collective interest of the PDP over personal considerations.
The committee reiterated the party’s commitment to rebuilding a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive PDP, expressing confidence that the 105th NEC meeting’s resolutions would strengthen internal democracy, restore stability, and position the party for future electoral success.
Stakeholders, supporters, and members of the PDP, both domestically and in the diaspora, were urged to remain steadfast, law-abiding, and committed to the party’s ideals.
“The NEC further approved and confirmed March 28 and 29, 2026, as the dates for the PDP National Convention in Abuja, for the purpose of electing members of the National Working Committee and other statutory organs of the party.”
