Plateau State University, Bokkos, has appointed two female academics as Deputy Vice-Chancellors of the institution.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Masara Kim, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Jos on Friday.
According to him, Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, while Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic.
The appointments were approved at the 106th Special Meeting of the University Senate held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, and chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Shedrack Best.
Kim said the appointments followed the expiration of the tenures of the former DVCs. Ayuba was reappointed for a second two-year term after completing her first tenure, while Choji was appointed for the first time to replace Professor Pyefa Galadima, who served two terms as DVC, Academic, from 2022.
He added that the appointments followed nominations by the Vice-Chancellor in line with Section 5 of the First Schedule of the University Law and were unanimously approved by the Senate.
With the appointments, PLASU becomes the second Nigerian university to have two female Deputy Vice-Chancellors serving simultaneously, after the University of Ibadan achieved the feat in November 2021.
Choji has previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Head of the Remedial Science Programme and Head of the newly established Department of Statistics.
Speaking on the appointments, Professor Best said the nominations reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit, while reaffirming his focus on quality service delivery.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence in the new DVCs and urged them to settle into their responsibilities immediately, noting that the university had several important tasks ahead.
“We have a lot to catch up on. We are due for accreditation of 11 programmes and are also commencing the new academic session,” Best said.
He also commended the outgoing DVC, Academic, Professor Moses Galadima, for his contributions to the university, particularly in the accreditation of academic and postgraduate programmes, examination administration and the introduction of new programmes.
Best further praised Galadima’s role in improving fee payment compliance, transforming ICT operations and advancing the digitisation of student registration and transcript systems.
Responding on behalf of her colleague, Ayuba thanked the Senate and the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to support the administration’s vision.
“Together as a team, all things are possible,” she said.
