Police Arrest Man For Raping, Impregnating 12-Year-Old Girl In Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man identified as Zayyanu Halilu for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl inside a tinted vehicle at the Airport Bridge Taxi Park in Abuja.
The victim was reportedly found to be about three months pregnant following the alleged abuse, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Saturday.
According to the police, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit were conducting routine patrols around the taxi park on October 2 when they noticed a navy blue Volkswagen with registration number KMC567LQ parked with its windows wound up.
The officers reportedly observed that the vehicle was shaking, prompting them to approach and open it. They allegedly found Halilu sexually abusing the minor.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while the girl was rescued by the officers.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the victim on several occasions inside the same vehicle at the location.
The police further said the suspect had threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
A medical examination subsequently revealed that the victim was approximately three months pregnant.
The police said the girl is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while Halilu remains in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety, whereabouts and welfare of their children and wards.
The command also advised members of the public to remain security-conscious and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
