Mummy Owolabi, wife of Pastor Juwon Owolabi of Lightlife Church International, has sparked reactions after encouraging married women to understand and enjoy sexual intimacy within marriage.
She made the remarks while speaking to married couples during a “Marriage That Works” programme organised by the church.
According to her, sex should not be regarded solely as a means of having children, stressing that women also have the right to experience pleasure within marriage.
“If you die without experiencing orgasm, you’ve lived a wasted life. God created sex, God instituted sex and as a woman you have the right to enjoy orgasm,” she said.
Mummy Owolabi, who disclosed that she got married as a virgin, said she initially had limited knowledge about sex beyond what she had learnt from biology.
She explained that she later realised she needed to deliberately educate herself about intimacy, describing it as “a body of knowledge” that couples should learn.
“I knew that okay, I need to understand because this is a body of knowledge, this is like a university,” she said.
She also encouraged married women to learn more about intimacy and noted that couples could explore different approaches within marriage.
“God is not against other styles in marriage,” she added.
Her husband, Pastor Juwon Owolabi, also contributed to the discussion, arguing that intimacy should not necessarily decline as couples grow older.
He referenced the biblical account of Abraham and his later marriage to Keturah, saying, “If you take care of yourself, the older you become, the better it should be.”
The programme focused on helping married couples understand sexual intimacy as an aspect of marriage, rather than viewing sex solely as a means of procreation.
