POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN ALLEGED N42M VISA FRAUD

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly defrauding more than 90 people of over N42 million in a fake visa processing scheme.
The suspect, identified as Adejoke Ayomide of Adesoye Street, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was apprehended following a petition filed by the law firm, Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi & Associates.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, Ayomide allegedly collected a total of N42,326,000 from victims after promising to secure travel visas to Spain, Portugal and France.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect presented herself as a travel consultant and convinced over 93 prospective travellers to entrust her with processing their travel documents. However, after receiving the payments through her Opay account, she allegedly became unreachable.
Jimoh said the command tracked and arrested the suspect on Wednesday. He added that she is currently in police custody and has made useful confessional statements.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify possible accomplices and establish whether there are more victims. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
