The Kwara State Police Command has strongly condemned a violent attack carried out by suspected bandits in the early hours of Monday, 25/05/26, in Yashikira, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to reports, the armed attackers launched a coordinated assault around 2:00 a.m., targeting both the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira, Umar Seriki.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed that part of the palace was set on fire during the attack, while 10 people—including two wives of the Emir—were abducted.

Police operatives successfully repelled the attack on the divisional headquarters.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, ordered a large-scale, intelligence-led joint operation involving the police, military, forest guards, vigilantes, and other security agencies to comb surrounding forests and criminal hideouts to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.

He vowed that the command would not be intimidated by criminal elements, stressing that security forces are fully prepared to track down the perpetrators, dismantle their networks, and ensure they face justice.

Authorities also assured residents of Yashikira, Kaiama LGA, and the wider state that security has been reinforced, with ongoing surveillance, intelligence gathering, and bush-combing operations across vulnerable areas.
