Police in Kano State have taken popular TikTok personality Fati Cele into custody following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence under circumstances currently being investigated.
Fati Cele, who hails from Borno State, lives in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano and has built a strong presence on TikTok, where she has amassed over 32,000 followers.
A close associate of the deceased alleged that the TikTok star emerged from her house shouting that there was a fire, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene.
“When people entered the house, they found Isma’il with burn injuries and traces of blood on his body,” the source claimed, adding that efforts were made to save him by rushing him to Nassarawa Hospital.
The source further disclosed that officers attached to the Dorayi Babba Police Division subsequently took Cele into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Friends of the deceased and acquaintances of the TikTok personality told reporters in Kano that the lovebirds had experienced relationship challenges in the past and had reportedly separated before recently reconciling.
Makaye, a cosmetics trader who lived in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was later buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released for funeral rites, according to family associates.
However, police authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the matter as of the time of filing this report.
