The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a bus carrying suspected criminals was spotted along the Ifo–Ibogun Road axis.

According to the Command, the vehicle was actually transporting 21 labourers employed by a construction company working on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the federal Ifo–Ibogun Road project.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said officers acted promptly on intelligence received on June 3, 2026, and deployed surveillance and anti-robbery teams to the area.

He explained that investigations revealed the bus had been stopped by some youths who suspected the occupants were criminals. However, police verification confirmed that the passengers were legitimate workers engaged on the road project.

“Further verification by the police confirmed that the workers were legitimately employed for the ongoing federal road project. The report linking them to criminal activities was found to be false and unfounded,” Babaseyi stated.

He added that officers reassured the workers of their safety and escorted them to their work site.

The police spokesperson also urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and subjecting innocent citizens to harassment.
