POLICE HEIGHTEN SECURITY IN YOLA AHEAD OF SHETTIMA’S VISIT

Ahead of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s condolence visit to the family of the late former Minister and elder statesman, Bamanga Tukur, the Adamawa State Police Command has intensified security across Yola, the state capital, and other strategic locations.

The command deployed armed personnel, including anti-riot policemen and armoured vehicles, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free visit.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, had ordered the deployment of adequate security personnel across the state.

Nguroje said the command had mobilised operational assets from various units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence Unit and Traffic Section, alongside Divisional Police Officers.

According to the statement, security measures would also include traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations in and around Yola.

The police commissioner urged residents and visitors to cooperate with security personnel and remain law-abiding throughout the Vice President’s visit.

He warned suspected troublemakers and criminal elements to stay away from the venues of the condolence visit, stressing that the command would take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the event or breach the peace.

The command also advised members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the police emergency lines.

The commissioner assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property before, during and after the Vice President’s visit.
