The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly operating within the Abeokuta metropolis.

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani and 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq, were apprehended on August 15 during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects were arrested after the police received intelligence that suspected members of the syndicate, posing as commercial taxi operators, had been spotted in a vehicle heading towards Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta.

Acting on the information, VCRU operatives reportedly pursued the vehicle and intercepted it around Ita-Oshin, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

The police said preliminary interrogation revealed that both suspects admitted to being active members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly targeting commuters across Abeokuta.

The command added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who were still at large, determine the full extent of their operations and recover relevant exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism during the operation.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state, warning criminals that they would find no safe haven in Ogun.

He also urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or criminal activities to the police through Gateway Shield on 0800 000 9111 or the emergency lines 09164859299 and 09154293464.
