RAHEEM STERLING TO FACE COURT OVER DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGES

Former England winger Raheem Sterling is set to appear in court next month after being charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failure to provide a specimen.

The 31-year-old is scheduled to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15, 2026, following a single-vehicle crash on the M3 motorway in Hampshire in May.

According to BBC Sport, Sterling crashed his Lamborghini while travelling southbound on the M3 near the Minley Interchange on May 28. Police said no other vehicle was involved and no injuries were recorded.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the charges, saying Sterling had been accused of dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.

The police said the charges followed the single-vehicle collision and confirmed that Sterling would appear in court on September 15.

Sterling was arrested after the incident but was later released on bail while investigations continued.

Police had initially examined whether the footballer was driving while unfit through drugs, but that allegation is not among the charges filed against him.

Sterling is currently without a club. He most recently played for Dutch side Feyenoord on a short-term deal after leaving Chelsea.

The forward joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 after a successful seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, where he won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and an FA Cup.

He later spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Arsenal before returning to Chelsea and subsequently moving to Feyenoord.

Sterling also enjoyed a distinguished international career with England, earning 82 caps between 2012 and 2022. He represented the Three Lions at three World Cups and two European Championships.

His appearance at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court will mark the next stage of the legal proceedings arising from the May motorway collision.
