REPS EXTEND 2025 CAPITAL BUDGET IMPLEMENTATION DEADLINE TO DECEMBER 31,2026

The House of Representatives has approved an extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
The extension was approved during Tuesday’s plenary after a motion was moved by the House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere.
Ihonvbere said the capital component of the budget had not been fully implemented due to prevailing economic challenges.
The lawmakers subsequently accelerated consideration of the bill, passing it through first, second and third readings during the same sitting.
This marks the fourth time the National Assembly has extended the deadline for implementing the 2025 capital budget.
In December 2025, lawmakers extended the deadline to March 31, 2026. The deadline was later moved to June 30 and subsequently to September 30.
The latest extension will allow the government until December 31, 2026, to complete the implementation of the 2025 capital budget.
