SALLAH: NRC INCREASES LAGOS-IBADAN TRAIN SERVICES

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train operations on the Lagos–Ibadan rail corridor ahead of the Sallah celebrations.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said the adjustment, scheduled for May 26, 2026, is intended to manage the expected rise in passenger traffic during the festive period.
According to the statement, the move is aimed at easing travel for Nigerians journeying to celebrate Sallah with their families and loved ones.
Under the arrangement, the NRC will operate six train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor instead of the usual four on Tuesdays.
According to the corporation, trains will depart Lagos at 7:45am, 1:40pm and 4:00pm, while departures from Ibadan will be at 8:00am, 10:50am and 4:30pm.
The management clarified that the arrangement was temporary and would only apply during the Sallah travel period.
“Immediately after the celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” it stated.
The corporation also disclosed that the recently introduced Thursday six-trip schedule would be temporarily adjusted next week, with only four trips scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026.
“The regular six-trip Thursday schedule will, however, resume the following week,” the statement added.
The NRC further announced that the Osun State Government would operate its annual free Sallah train service on the narrow-gauge corridor for indigenes travelling home to celebrate the festival in Osogbo.
According to the statement, the special train will depart Iddo Station, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, while the return trip from Osogbo to Lagos is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The corporation explained that the service, traditionally operated during festive periods, was being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid partnership with the NRC.

The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, efficient and reliable rail transportation services nationwide and wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Adha celebration
