SEVEN MEN REPORTED DEAD IN OGUN MULTIPLE ROAD CRASH

No fewer than seven men have lost their lives, while two others sustained serious injuries in a multiple road crash along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo, Ogun State.

The crash occurred at about 12:03am on Monday and involved three vehicles: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.

The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, identifying speed violation as the probable cause of the crash.

Odunsi said the Ogun State Ambulance Service evacuated the bodies of the deceased from the scene, while the injured victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

He said the FRSC Ibafo Outpost received the report at about 4:04am and arrived at the scene five minutes later.

According to him, nine people, all male, were involved in the crash, with seven losing their lives and two sustaining injuries.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, has confirmed a fatal multiple road traffic crash that occurred at about 0003hrs on Monday, 24 August 2026, along the Ibafo–Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo.

“Preliminary information indicates that nine persons, all male, were involved in the crash. Sadly, seven persons were killed, while two persons sustained injuries.

“The crash was classified as a fatal multiple road traffic crash, with speed violation identified as the probable cause, subject to further investigation,” he said.

Odunsi added that the vehicles involved had been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further investigation and necessary action.

The FRSC expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

Odunsi quoted the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, as urging motorists, especially drivers of articulated vehicles, to avoid excessive speed, maintain safe following distances and remain alert while driving.

He also advised motorists to exercise greater caution at night, noting that poor visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road crashes.
