SSACO THREATENS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST OYO APM GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE OVER CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS

The campaign organisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has threatened to institute legal proceedings against the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, over allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.
The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) described the allegations as false and intended to damage Alli’s reputation and weaken his political support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, accused Adekanmbi of misrepresenting historical facts and exploiting past challenges in local government administration for political gains.
The group said the allegations, reportedly made during a radio interview, were aimed at discrediting Alli rather than presenting credible proposals for the development of Oyo State.
Defending Alli’s record as chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, SSACO maintained that he prioritised workers’ welfare and ensured prompt salary payments during his tenure. It added that his performance earned him recognition from the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State.
The organisation explained that financial difficulties faced by local governments following the Federal Military Government’s January 1993 policy on staff promotions and salary increases were nationwide challenges arising from inadequate funding to implement the policy.
According to the statement, the challenges extended beyond Alli’s tenure and were later addressed through institutional interventions, including the establishment of the National Primary Education Commission in 1997 and the introduction of first-line charges for teachers’ salaries by 1999.
Challenging Adekanmbi to produce the report allegedly supporting his corruption claims, SSACO warned that failure to substantiate the allegations could result in a defamation lawsuit.
The campaign organisation further accused Adekanmbi and his political associates of using past administrative challenges to mislead voters, insisting that the allegations would not undermine Alli’s political standing.
SSACO also criticised the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing it of weakening local government administration and preventing residents from benefiting fully from effective grassroots governance.
The organisation said Alli would strengthen the administrative and financial capacity of the state’s 33 local government areas if elected governor in 2027.
It added that his proposed priorities would include reconstructing feeder and access roads to improve the movement of people and goods, while stimulating economic activities across the state.
The campaign organisation expressed confidence in Alli’s proposed agenda for grassroots development, stating that his campaign would focus on restoring effective local government administration.
It also urged Adekanmbi to engage in issue-based political discussions rather than resort to what it described as attempts to distort historical facts for partisan advantage.
