Youth development organisation, Talk Up Tribe, has awarded scholarships and educational support to three teenagers at the second edition of its annual Summer SpeakFest held at the Ibadan Business School in Oyo State.
The conference, themed “Amplifying Teen Voices,” brought together 105 teenagers for sessions focused on confidence, communication, financial literacy and creative expression.
During the scholarship ceremony, an SS1 student of Oritamefa Baptist Model School, Oluwatomiyin Oyelade, received a N120,000 scholarship, while an SS2 student of Federal Government College, Oyo, Mary Adebaba, was awarded N100,000.
Another student, Oladipupo Damilare of Bishop Onabanjo High School, received a Senior WAEC scholarship.
The programme also featured a keynote session on confidence and communication, a financial literacy session facilitated by Union Bank Nigeria, a film screening and discussion with the Ibadan Indie Film Awards, a panel session and a talent showcase.
The Convener of Summer SpeakFest, Orenimi Olawuyi, said the scholarships were part of the organisation’s efforts to provide young people with tangible opportunities beyond the inspiration gained from its programmes.
She said investing in teenagers’ confidence, communication, creativity, critical thinking and sense of responsibility was essential to Nigeria’s future development.
A 19-year-old participant, Obasanjo Adeleke Oba, said attending the physical conference after previously participating in the organisation’s virtual programme helped improve his communication skills and confidence.
Meanwhile, keynote speaker Osarennoma Saba commended Talk Up Tribe for creating opportunities for young people to gain mentorship, exposure and access to supportive communities.
