Former Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has weighed in on the recent dismissal of manager Xabi Alonso, attributing it to Alonso’s struggles with managing the egos of the squad.
Alonso, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti last year, was recently relieved of his duties at Santiago Bernabéu.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Bale said: “You need to manage the egos in the dressing room; you’ve got to pamper the egos. You don’t need to focus on so many tactical things.”
He added, “In the dressing room, there are superstars who can change matches in the blink of an eye. So, yes, he [Alonso] is a great coach and tactician, but at Real Madrid, it obviously did not work. He needs control over that group [Real Madrid stars], and that is something you don’t get at Real Madrid.”
