THREE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS ARRESTED, TWO VICTIMS RESCUED IN ONDO

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and rescued two victims during an operation in Isua-Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Abubakar, Ibrahim Abubakar and Oseni Abubakar, all residents of Akunnu community in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, adding that security operatives also recovered N1.5m suspected ransom from the kidnappers’ hideout.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted jointly by the police, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, and local hunters.
The PPRO said the operation began on Friday, September 11, 2026, following credible intelligence that suspected kidnappers hiding in a forest along the Ifira–Idoani axis planned to come out to collect ransom.
“Acting on the intelligence, operatives of Isua Division, in collaboration with personnel of the Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun) and Agbe-Koya, embarked on a coordinated rescue and ambush operation deep inside the forest,” the statement said.
The security operatives reportedly positioned themselves along the suspected route and maintained surveillance for several hours before sighting the kidnappers.
At about 11:30pm, the suspects, said to be about four and armed with firearms, reportedly emerged from the forest and opened fire after sighting the security team.
The operatives responded and successfully repelled the attack while rescuing the two victims, identified as Owolabi Patrick and Asoto Dada, unhurt.
The victims later visited the police station, where they reportedly identified the three arrested suspects as the persons who abducted them.
A Bajaj motorcycle earlier recovered by the police was also identified by the victims as being linked to the alleged criminal operation. The motorcycle remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The command said the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, had ordered the transfer of the case to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Akure for discreet investigation.
The investigation, according to the police, is aimed at uncovering the suspects’ wider network and ensuring that all those connected with the alleged criminal operation are brought to justice.
