President Bola Tinubu is set to present the 2027 federal budget to the National Assembly by the end of this year, according to Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning. She made this announcement while speaking to reporters after the Federal Executive Council meeting, which was led by Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

“We are working on the budget for 2027, and the intention is to present it before the end of the year,” she said when asked when the budget will be presented.

The information was shared just weeks after the Budget Office of the Federation issued a directive on September 4, 2026, in a document called the Personnel Costs Budget Call Circular.

This directive, signed by Tanimu Yakubu, the Director-General of the Budget Office, asked all ministries, departments, and agencies to send their plans for personnel costs for the 2027 budget along with their establishment Acts.

This directive required MDAs to include their establishment Acts with their proposals, a new rule that came about after a scandal involving fake agencies was found by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Any agencies not listed in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System or the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System were not allowed to get funds for personnel costs in the 2027 budget.
