Troops of the 73 Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside local vigilantes, have neutralised two suspected ISWAP terrorists during an ambush operation along Tamsukawu Road behind the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno State.

The operation was disclosed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared on his X account.

According to Makama, the operation was carried out at about 12:15 a.m. on July 16, when troops lying in ambush intercepted suspected terrorists moving along the route.

A gun battle reportedly ensued, resulting in the death of two suspected ISWAP fighters, while other members of the group escaped into nearby bushes.

Following the encounter, troops conducted a search operation in the surrounding area to track the fleeing suspects but made no further contact.

Military sources said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to restrict the movement of terrorists around Maiduguri and its outskirts, particularly along routes frequently used by insurgents for infiltration.

The sources added that security in the area remains under control, although troops have been placed on high alert due to the volatile security situation in the theatre of operations.
