Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five abducted persons, including a mother and her infant, during a military operation in Katsina State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Thursday, saying the troops acted on intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists around Madaci Forest in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
According to the Army, troops swiftly moved to intercept the suspects, an action that reportedly caused “confusion in the enemy camp” and created an opportunity for the abducted victims to be rescued.
The rescued persons included a mother and her infant, as well as three other minors and young adults from Danja and Funtua Local Government Areas.
The victims were subsequently handed over to the Chairman of Bakori Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Musa, for reunification with their families.
The Army said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt criminal activities and protect communities across the region.
Meanwhile, troops of the 248 Reconnaissance Battalion have repelled a terrorist attack in Badiya Village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The troops, acting on intelligence about suspicious movements in the area, engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat, according to the military.
The fleeing terrorists reportedly abandoned a large herd of rustled livestock, which was subsequently returned to its rightful owners during a ceremony facilitated by the Shagari Local Government chairman and the local District Head.
The military said its troops were maintaining “aggressive patrols” across the affected areas to deny criminals freedom of movement and support the restoration of normalcy.
The operations come as security forces continue efforts to disrupt terrorist and criminal activities and protect communities across Katsina and Sokoto states.
