Two persons have been killed in separate incidents involving alleged arson and stabbing in Jigawa State, with the police arresting two suspects in connection with the incidents.

The Jigawa State Police Command said the suspects were arrested for alleged mischief by fire, culpable homicide and grievous hurt in Gwaram and Dutse Local Government Areas of the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Dutse on Wednesday.

Adam said the first incident occurred on September 29, 2026, at about 11:30pm when 27-year-old Abbas Ibrahim of Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA, allegedly entered the residence of his elder brother, 25-year-old Basiru Shuaibu, by jumping over the fence.

According to the PPRO, Ibrahim, who claimed to be of unsound mind, allegedly poured petrol inside his brother’s room and set it ablaze.

The fire reportedly left Shuaibu and his wife with serious burns.

Adam said the victims were taken by relatives to a traditional medicine practitioner for treatment, but Shuaibu later died from his injuries.

“Unfortunately, Basiru Shuaibu succumbed to the injuries and died while receiving treatment,” he said.

Following the incident, police operatives commenced an investigation and arrested Ibrahim in Sara town, Gwaram LGA.

The PPRO said the case was being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, adding that the suspect had been arraigned in court for prosecution.

In a separate incident, Adam said 20-year-old Lawisi Safiyanu of Chamo village allegedly stabbed 25-year-old Muhammad Abba in Dutse LGA on October 1, 2026, following a disagreement over a ₦500 balance.

He said Abba had purchased a mobile phone from Safiyanu for ₦1,500, paid ₦1,000 and was expected to pay the remaining ₦500.

“During the ensuing disagreement over the outstanding ₦500, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab him,” the PPRO said.

Abba was reportedly rushed to the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, Dutse, where he died while receiving treatment.

Adam said Safiyanu was arrested and the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered.

He added that investigation into the case had been concluded and the suspect charged to court, stressing that he would face the full weight of the law.

The PPRO said the command remained committed to taking firm action against criminal activities and ensuring that offenders were brought to justice.

He also quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, as urging residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

Murtala advised residents to promptly report suspicious activities, threats and disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies.
