The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has led council officials in a weekly environmental sanitation exercise across key areas of Ikeja as part of efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
The exercise, held on Thursday, was aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and encouraging residents to take responsibility for proper waste management within the local government area.
Participating actively in the exercise, Dauda stressed that environmental sanitation remains a collective responsibility, noting that a clean environment is essential for preventing diseases, protecting public health, and improving residents’ quality of life.

The council chairman urged residents to avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse, particularly blocking drainages and waterways, warning that such practices increase the risk of flooding and other environmental hazards, especially during the rainy season.
He assured residents that the weekly sanitation exercise would continue as part of the council’s sustained efforts to create a cleaner, safer, and more habitable Ikeja.
Dauda called for greater cooperation from residents, emphasising that maintaining a clean environment requires the commitment and participation of everyone.
