Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata has paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Michael Ndika, revealing that he played a major role in shaping her music career and consistently encouraged her not to step away from the industry.
In a video believed to have been recorded during a memorial event in his honour and shared on X by @ChuksEricE on Friday, the Grammy-nominated artiste reflected on their relationship and the impact Ndika had on both her personal life and professional journey.
Ndika, who was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on afro-house and contemporary African music, passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 44.
Speaking emotionally, Niniola described their relationship as a deeply supportive “love story,” crediting him as a key force behind her rise in the music industry.
She said he supported her unconditionally, often putting her needs first and believing strongly in her potential for stardom.

According to her, Ndika transformed her life after they met, introducing her to new experiences and continuously motivating her despite her naturally reserved personality.
Niniola revealed that he repeatedly assured her of her future success and remained instrumental in her growth as an artiste.
She added that even when she considered taking a break from music, her husband insisted she continue pursuing her career.
The singer also spoke about the emotional void left by his passing, describing him as the most important person in her life.
Reflecting on their daily life together, she said he was the first person she saw each morning and the last person she spoke to at night, expressing deep grief over his absence.
Niniola also expressed gratitude to Ndika’s family for accepting her and acknowledged the shock surrounding his death, while apologising to those affected by how the news was initially shared.
The announcement of Ndika’s passing, after 13 years of marriage, had come as a surprise to many fans and industry observers, as the singer had kept her marriage largely out of the public eye.
