Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has appealed to residents to remain steadfast as the August 15 governorship election approaches, urging them to reject any attempt to return the state to what he described as an era of hardship and poor governance.
In a statement, Adeleke alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was seeking a return to power despite what he claimed was its record of paying civil servants half salaries, leaving many workers struggling to feed their families and forcing some to rely on neighbours for survival.
The governor said his administration had worked to restore workers’ welfare, improve governance and place the interests of the people at the centre of government, stressing that the progress made in the state should not be reversed.
“I call on the good people of Osun State to remain resolute for just a few more days. We must not allow those who weaponised poverty by paying half salaries, denying workers their dignity and making families endure unnecessary hardship to return to power,” he said.
Adeleke urged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers on election day and defend what he described as the mandate of the people through peaceful and lawful participation in the electoral process.
“On August 15, let every vote send a clear and unmistakable message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion and responsible leadership. Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep our state moving forward,” the governor added.
