WIKE FIRES BACK AT BODE GEORGE OVER PDP LEADERSHIP DISPUTE

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said he has no regrets about opposing former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George, from becoming the party’s National Chairman.
Wike described George as a failed politician, alleging that he has not delivered any electoral victory for the PDP in Lagos State since 1999.
The minister stated this in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

According to Wike, George’s political frustration has been further heightened by the emergence of Deji Doherty, a figure he allegedly does not want to lead the PDP in Lagos State.
“His anger is because we didn’t allow him to be PDP National Chairman and no regret doing so,” Wike said.
He alleged that George had acted as though the national chairmanship was his entitlement but was stopped because it was the turn of the South-South to produce the party chairman.
“George wanted to be PDP National Chairman, and was carrying on like the position was his birthright. We stopped him because it was the turn of the South-South. Since then, he has not stopped being angry,” Wike added.
The former Rivers State governor also recalled visiting George at his Maitama residence in Abuja while serving as governor in an attempt to reconcile with him following the party’s national convention.
Wike said his visit was almost unsuccessful after George’s wife initially attempted to prevent him from entering the residence, before former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko intervened.
He accused George of failing to deliver electoral victories for the PDP in Lagos despite the political influence and privileges he had enjoyed over the years.
“We have managed him even though we know that he has no value. But as it is, since he wants to keep dancing naked in the marketplace of politics, we can’t but allow him,” Wike said.
The FCT minister argued that political leadership should not be determined by a politician’s name, title or status as a founding member, but by the ability to win elections.
On that basis, he described George as “a complete disaster.”
Wike also challenged George’s electoral record, claiming that the former PDP chieftain had never won even his own polling unit, Unit 001, Ward E2, Evans Street, Lagos Island, for the party.
He cited the 2019 presidential election, when the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly secured 84 votes at the polling unit compared with 40 votes for the PDP.
Wike added that in the 2023 election, after George transferred his voter’s card to Eti-Osa, the PDP secured only four votes at his former polling unit.
He further mocked George, saying that since the former PDP leader appeared to have little else to occupy his time, he would continue to give his associates reasons to remain active by moving from one television station to another.
