WIKE PLEDGES DELIVERY OF 10 MAJOR FCT ROADS BEFORE END OF 2026

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that between eight and 10 major road projects across the territory will be completed and commissioned before the end of the year, reaffirming the FCT Administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection of ongoing road projects across the FCT, expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded on the long-delayed Apo–Karshi road and the Bwari–Kubwa road corridor.
Addressing concerns over whether the political calendar could affect project execution, the minister dismissed suggestions that work should slow ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains focused on governance.
He noted that the President’s first term runs until May 29, 2027, adding that government projects would continue uninterrupted until then.
Speaking on the Apo–Karshi road, originally awarded in 2010, Wike said the project had suffered years of delays due to the previous contractor’s poor performance. He explained that the contract was terminated and re-awarded to a new company, leading to significant progress on the project.
At the Bwari–Kubwa road site, the minister acknowledged the challenging terrain but urged contractors to adhere to the agreed completion timeline, assuring them of timely funding to facilitate the project’s completion before the peak of the rainy season.
Wike reiterated that the administration remains on course to deliver between eight and 10 strategic road projects before the end of the year and pledged prompt release of funds to enable contractors take full advantage of the current favourable weather conditions.
